Colleen Pence

Colleen Pence knows business. She spent 16 years leading the marketing and public relations efforts for the San Antonio Symphony, Marmon Mok (a legendary San Antonio architecture firm), and ASNA (an international software company). Her work with these firms taught her how to successfully market businesses in various industries as well as how to create connections with prospects and customers that resulted in loyal, long-term relationships. Her experience with traditional marketing and public relations helps her effectively integrate social media into her clients’ existing marketing strategies.

Colleen also knows social media. An early social media adopter, she started blogging five years ago and quickly acquired an average audience of 5,000 unique visitors per month. She’s also been active on Twitter for over three years. As social media blossomed, she quickly saw the value of integrating her marketing, business and social media skills.

She founded Social Media Mentoring in 2008 to mentor companies—both large and small—through the challenges of integrating social media with business. Known for her customized, personal approach, Colleen is a highly sought-after social media consultant. Recent clients include the Autism Community Network, The Fredericksburg Convention and Visitor Bureau, The San Antonio Children’s Museum,  The San Antonio River Authority, and The Westin La Cantera Resort.

Colleen assumed an early leadership role in the San Antonio social media community. Her community activities have included:

  • creating Tweetbabes, a group of smart, savvy San Antonio women on Twitter who meet regularly to network
  • co-organizing Action San Antonio, an organization that provides an annual unconference (ActionCamp San Antonio) dedicated to helping nonprofits learn about social media in addition to free, quarterly social media workshops for nonprofits
  • being a past co-organizer of Social Media Breakfast San Antonio
  • co-organizing the first TweetCamp in 2009 (a free Twitter unconference)
  • creating San Antonio’s first Tweetsgiving, part of an international (online) and in-person (local) event in 2009 to help raise money to build a school for children in Tanzania.

Colleen recently won an award from San Antonio’s largest social media association, The Business / Media / Public Relations Tweetup (The BMPR), as the most helpful social media practitioner in San Antonio. And she was recently nominated for a 2011 Statesman Texas Social Media Award (TSMA).

Colleen Pence knows business. She knows social media. And she loves making them work together.
